Bambou Ada: Hi. Good afternoon everyone. Thanks for being here for our last day. I will try to interview the Ambassador, Your Excellency, Monsieru Diabate, the Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire. He is here in the United States and who is located in Washington, DC. So your excellence, I will ask you some questions. Regarding the program that we see during the 3 days, all that was said by Cote d'Ivoire, Ivory Coast if you want to say that, what is the perspective of all these events that you share and how do you see the future of this project in Cote d'Ivoire?
00:01:07 - 00:09:52 Honorable Daouda Diabate, Ambassador of Embassy of Cote d'Ivoire to USA (English)
Thank you so much. Thank you for giving me the opportunity first to be here, because our brothers and sisters are able to initiate that exhibition that we are here. We have come leading a very important delegation including some high ranking officials from the Ministry of Economy, coming from Abidjan, from Cote d'Ivoire, from Ivory Coast if you mean, and we are very happy to be here because we have come to participate and showcase what the new Cote d'Ivoire is. What I mean by "New Cote d'Ivoire?" You know that Cote d'Ivoire used to be a success story in matter of economic development. It was also a success story in matter of peace and stability that was very seldom in Africa. Unfortunately, during the last 10 years, the country has faced a very difficult political crisis. Fortunately, with the assistance of our brothers and sisters of the international community, we have been able to bring back peace, stability under the leadership of our new elected President, President Alassane Ouattara who has a vision and the leadership that the country deserves to make progress and bring back development in the country. We have come here in order to show our partners the LA and let's say the Californian businessmen, business community what Cote d'Ivoire is. Traditionally, Cote d'Ivoire used to be an agricultural country. The new step that we want to put in our strategy, our development, is to make the transformation of our raw material, because we don't want to export our product at the stage of raw material. We want to make the tansformation. And in that area, we need the assistance and the expertise of the American businessmen, the private sector. So we have come here to let them know that the opportunities are there in Cote d'Ivoire in the agricultural sector.
But in addition, Cote d'Ivoire has one of the best infrastructural networks, I mean the road network, the bridges, the railways, the airport, the Port of Abidjan, that is the second largest port in Subsaharan Africa after Durban. In addition to the Port of Abidjan, we have also the Port of San Pedro, the second port of Cote d'Ivoire, and we are convinced that the Port of San Pedro is going to become a very health port, because we have a new project of the development of the western part of the country. We have a quotation of Iron Man in that part, and for that the President and the Government have conceived a new railway project to sustain the project of exportation of the iron man, and that railway will be a development, an infrastructure of the western part, not only for Cote d'Ivoire but also for Mali and next on the West, Guinea also. These infrastructures are not the only ones we can mention. We have a telecommunications system that the businessmen need also to develop their business.
In addition to all this, I want to add that we have the human resources. We have very well-trained human resources there in Cote d'Ivoire to take care of the business that the private sector of America is going to develop in our country. That is what we have come to show, to show that peace has come back, to show that stability has come back, to show that Cote d'Ivoire that we used to be. The success story is ready to make that success story happen again under the leadership of our new President, Alassan Quattara who has started his ruling of the country by making a lot of successful reconstruction of reform. If they have reform, a lot of sectors, mainly the coffee and cocoa sectors, our main product. They are also making the same for the electricity sector, telecommunications sector. They have even adopted a new investment called for the country to make Cote d'Ivoire a business climate that is very friendly. Those who invest in Cote d'Ivoire, they will have a very high return on investment and make their business a win-win opportunity.
That is what I wanted to say, but I cannot conclude without thanking various authorities of LA for having received us and assisted us and to participate in that event and mainly Dr. Zaho who has taken the initiative of organizing this event and also the new economic delegate, Mr. Inza Camera, who is responsible of promotion, of economic sector in Cote d'Ivoire and our high ranking officials led by Mr. Marius Bici and Mr. Sen, who have come far away from Cote d'Ivoire to attend this event and make that event a success. Above all, I want to thank every one of you for having taken your time to come here to assist and to participate, and beyond Cote d'Ivoire to showcase what Africa has.
Africa is qualified as being classified as being the New Frontier. Indeed, Africa is the New Frontier. Africa will be tomorrow what China is today. We have that difference that Africa has a huge potential of raw material. in addition, we have also the people. With our billion people, dynamic, young, it means that the future is for Africa, and and that future is for today. I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity, and I cannot conclude without thanking, also, Mr. Dennis Matthews and this channel, for having given us his mike, to give us the opportunity to address each one of you and express our deep feeling of belonging to your community, although I come from Washington. Thank you so much.
